Johanna E. GluckJohanna (Josie) Gluck (she / her) is an educator, interdisciplinary artist, designer, and glassmaker.
In her work, she creates and interprets systems of order and value so that the essence of matter may be examined through context and experience. Themes of materiality, craft labor, and sustainable exchange provide the architecture for investigations into revealing the unexpected through creating and relating conditions and things. Function and design are central to Gluck's experience as a maker. Her collaboration with husband and remarkable craftsman, Michael Schunke; Vetro Vero Glass Studio designs and produces objects to enrich the human condition. Vetro Vero designs have been featured in national and international publications; and have received numerous awards. Gluck holds a degree in Art History and Studio Art from Union College in Schenectady, NY, and studied glass at the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, TN, before earning a MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Josie currently integrates an abundance of materials into her work and continues to engage with glass as an educator, explorer, consumer and producer of material culture. She enjoys growing food and flowers, connecting with people, fishing with Michael and playing with their awesome dog, Dr. Fauci. |
