System for Manufacturing Perfection
I invited an individual to engage in a shared practice of consumption and production. Through fully embracing its use-value, the participant acquires, uses, and inevitably breaks a drinking glass that I have made by hand. The consumer is contractually required to return the shards to me, the maker. I melt the glass, make another cup, and send the reiteration back to the user. The process continues.
Using the material's "weakness" as it's strength, the relationship between consumer and producer emerges over time, through the material. The broken and the made are never exact replicas of the original forms. Rather, the point of exchange reflects a compilation of perfect moments that build an intimate relationship between producer and consumer: the moments of complete breaking, and the moments of complete making, which are always precise, but never the same.
